You will have to visit a designated police station within three days of a caution, conviction or leaving prison. If you don't come to the police station to register your details, you could face a five year jail sentence. You will also have to come to a police station annually to comply with your notification requirements, and also if any of your personal details change. Again, you could face a five year jail sentence if you fail to comply with this.
In addition, when you go into the police station, we may also take your fingerprints and a photograph of you. If you are cautioned for a sexual offence, you will be placed on the sex offenders register for two years, or one year if you are under 18 at the time of the offence.
Once your name is offender the register, it will remain there for the duration and sex be reviewed. If you are sentenced for a sexual offence for less than six sex, you will be placed on the register for seven years, or three and a half years if you are under 18 at the time of the offence.
If you are sentenced for a sexual offence for between six and 30 months, you will be placed on the register for ten years, or five years if offender are under 18 at the time of the offence. With the exception of prison sentences of 30 months or more, minors offenders under the age of 18 will have their registration period halved.
