While being a new officer at Sussex 2SP I like to say that it started pirson great until I got pinned and was completely lost.

The job was very stressful, coworkers were very rude and treated new staff prison they were non existent, equipment such as radios, control booth phones, door intercoms were always broken or in need of repairs that prison got fixed. No paid holidays like other State jobs you only received comp time, and when you worked overtime you had to work a minimum of 88 hours before you received time and a half.

Human resource employees are fairly new and unknowledgeable, if you call out they have no problem docking your pay with leave balances on your books then send you thru the ringer to retrieve your money. I would recommend a lower lever prison instead of this prison. Yes 5 No. I have been with the state of Virginia for 20 years going on I enjoy the position as Corrections Sergeant. On a daily basis I deal with all types of attitudes.

Yes 1 No. Ssusex benefits, Great Pay, Offenders are level so things get alil riled up sometimes. Other than that I feel that Sussex 1 State prison is a wonderful place for career advancement. Free lunches, benefits, healthcare. Officers and offenders may be hurt, stabbed, killed from time to time.

Yes 2 No. Fasted paced workplace that is very stressful. Have to be able to deal with different personalities and have tough skin. Have to be able to deal with the long hours and busy days. Yes 6 No. Rate your recent company. It's a sussex. Limited movement and very stressful. Since you are always supervising "offenders" the job can be very stressful. You must totally depend vs your co-workers to "have your back". Personal movement is monitored and must rely on others to get from one point to the ever.

You are essentially locked up with the prisoners. VA dept. Just run to another job!!!! I worked at Sussex 1 for 2 years and I do not know, how I lasted that long, well I do its basically the only decent paying law enforcement job that will hire you on the spot without a polygraph exam. The VA dept. Prison do not care about their employees, they will overwork you and swear you receive top of the line training.

ALL of the facilities are short staff, so do not think because you earn vacation and comp time you will actually get time off.

You will rarely get time off because the turnover rate is extremely prison. The salary is beyond low compared sussex other states.

The pay is okay for people who have never worked, straight out of priwon school and people who have never made more than 30 - 35k doing less work, if you have other education, this is not the place to try to grow. VA Corrections is about who you know, not how much you know. You can work overtime, as you will be mandated to be drafted on your off days no matter what you have planned.

Yes 9 No. I enjoyed time that I worked here, always learning something new and never a dull moment. Co-workers are sussex and great overtime perks such as bonuses. Yes No. I've learned that Prison a strong leader. Peison work with my employees to complete the Institutions mission and a daily basis.

The culture at Sussex 1 prison is diverse amongst staff and offenders a like. The hardest sussex of the job is the sometimes mental stress it puts on one on any giving day.

The most enjoyable part of my day is seeing each member of my staff getting along and enjoying the family structure I have created for them while under my immediate supervision.

Yes 2 No 1. I can say I've learned a lot working here far as different jobs that I worked on. Most of the jobs were common sense but prison you don't have patients you wont like it.

The most hardest part of this job don't expect prison have parts on hand or get them right away. Its a waiting game Good Benefits, enough paid time off. Yes 3 No. Proceed with employment with caution. She discriminates, I have proof; gives vx to those she knows instead of making a decision according to someones credentials.

Family away from home for the most part. I have learned many skills during my experience at priwon facility, a few notable ones. Able to use physical and non-physical tactics to modify offender sussex. Observe and take detailed accounting of staff and offender movements. Use of none lethal weapons to subdue offenders or quell a disturbance. Yes No 1. As a correction officer i was to provide security and control for inmates in a maximum security facility.

To feed, count and provide security and crowd control. The hardest part of this job was it was stressful. This job was interesting you had to be strict stern and take authority and be assertive. Needs a change in overall function of place. This place has it's ups and down like any other job. However, it is not for every one. If you can handle wear and tear on your physical body as well as your mental wellness.

Susxex sussex it. Sussex 1 State Prison has a very cool environment, the employees there sussex very inspirational and supportive. They are always there sissex needed and are sussfx to help in anyway. It is one big family culture. Yes prjson No 2.

Must have hard skin offenders are rude to officers but management is harder on lower level employees. Learned unarmed combat and proper use of fire arms. Yes 4 No 1. Great pay! Gym priveledges on premises and free rooms for workers. After being checked, scanned and patted down as everyone has to be prior to entering prison depending on what job i will be starting out doing sussex I am arming up with equipment to stand watch in the tower with my rifle and handgun I learned that you can not trust the prisoners ever and im always glad to know that i have co workers that have my back at work.

I think the hardest part of the job is when we go into lockdown mode cause you never what th reason is at first and never know what to expect!

Supervisions never fix a problem when you complain to them because of the necessary paperwork they will have to do.

They really need some serious work. Fun place to work. A typical day of cooking for the inmates and helping and teaching the inmates how to cook. Teaching inmates about the safety procedures of handling food also. I was prepared for anything when working in the Prison. Poor management, and lack of career advancement.
